Mitten knitten

I’ve had a bash at knitting some mittens using the beautiful mustard 6 ply merino that my Secret Pal got me. I used Kate Gilbert’s Gifted pattern, which is one of those two-needle-sew-it-up jobs. The constructions is quite interesting. Look…

Unfortunately, it has ended up a bit narrow in the hand for me. I think the thumb construction starts a bit early, and I didn’t knit enough ribbing for the cuff. Other than that, it’s fine(!) I’ll probably frog it. But it’s a really quick and quite fun knit, if I can perfect it.

I have just participated in a very happy swap, courtesy of the Knitty Coffeeshop. Carolyn over at Kids & Knits took possession of a knitting book, and I got two balls of Rowan chunky print in the pebbledash colourway. It’s lovely! I thought I might knit some more mittens with it, if I can adjust the pattern to my liking.

Not much else on the knitting front to report. What are you all up to?

  • The mittens will be lovely! It’s a shame they didn’t fit at first, but it seems a simple, great pattern.

  • Oh those mittens look lovely and cosy – I hope you can adjust the pattern to fit you easily enough. At least they are chunky rather than 4ply !

  • There’s a pattern for mits using big wool in one of the ‘big got bigger’ Rowan books – can’t remember which one! But it probably would be a more similar gauge to the chunky print and that might make things easier for you. I’ve got massive things on at the moment, like a 620stitch per row scarf on 4.5mm needles(vertical stripes) which is sure to drive me mental before the day is out!

  • Your mittens look great. Maybe they’ll stretch a little? Thanks for the pattern link too – I might give them a go!

  • Love those mittens–the color is gorgeous! I’m glad you posted some feedback on the pattern; I was just about to start my own Gifted mittens.

  • love the colour combo of the mitten – shame about sizing… hopefully you can sort it?
