Crafting Japanese

I don’t know about you, but I love the Japanese style of crafting. It’s so sweet and simple (in terms of look, rather than practice!). The wee amigurumi creatures are particularly cute. Until last weekend, I couldn’t crochet more than a chain, so amigurumi was probably a bit out of range. However Anna was kind enough to take some time out and work me through the basics. I am now the proud owner of some granny squares which will eventually form part of a throw. (I’ll post pictures soon.)

So, amigurumi is my destination… I’m beginning to think I am a bit of a Craft Tart. Knitting one minute, sewing the next (although you haven’t seen much of it ’round these parts). And now – crochet!

This is a great site. Very inspiring, and a handy reference point for getting hold of those covetable Japanese craft books.

And in swapping news, the pink yarn in my previous post is still up for grabs. The lovely girl over at Cast On Cast Off took the rest off my hands in exchange for…A Christmas Cake, made with her own bare hands! How cool is that?! (Clue: VERY).

  • I love the Japanese craft stuff too, even the photography in the books is lovely. I have a wshlist on the Japanese Amazon, and I don’t know what half the books are about… they just look cool.

  • I am addicted to that Japanese site… have yet to gatehr enough courage to buy one online. Could be a slippery slope.

Christmas cake for yarn – that is v. v. nice idea.

  • ohhh amigurumi…yeah-it is so cool! good luck!
