Seasonal adjustments

Aptly, for the time of year and subject matter of this post, there is snow on the ground as I type. While much of the UK has had a healthly covering already this year, London has “escaped” the brunt of the white weather – much to my immense disappointment. The mere dusting which adorns the garden at the moment is hardly even a consolation prize. My fingers are crossed for a good few inches before Christmas but I reckon London’s micro-climate will thwart my wishes.

Usually, at this time of year, I am embroiled in a frenzied snowstorm of crafting, but a rampant toddler has put paid to that. However, the joy of making lame, hand-made trinkets for friends and family is entirely off-set by Spike’s fledgling excitement/bewilderment about the festive season. I can see how it would be confusing. We have a tree in the house, there are daunting parcels beneath said tree, the living room has been bedecked in a random selection of gaudy geegaws and everyone keeps banging on about…”Christmas”.

I eased him into the festive spirit with some themed colouring, which kept him entertained for, oh, 5 minutes.

He enjoyed that, but he loves the brightly coloured snowflakes I cut out for him.

Spike seems to be settling into the idea that it is a special time of year and has embraced the Christmas tree, in particular. We have our own Ceremony of Switching on the Lights every morning. He is being very good about not touching the lights. Typically, we lost our existing Christmas lights and in a fit of “the tree MUST be decorated TODAY”, I ended up having to purchase new lights for the grand total of one Great British Pound from the esteemed establishment, Poundland. I am very worried that the house is going to burn down. Next year we will be better prepared.

Despite the Toddler Time Void, I have managed (as always) to squeeze in a tiny bit of crafting. Knitted star tree decorations for a few friends.

I have actually been working on a couple of other non-Christmas, secret projects which I’ll post some sneaky peeks of soon.

In the meantime, Happy Christmas, everybody!
