I’ve been meaning to post this meme for a while, and Parikha’s post prompted me to get around to it… 

1. FIRST NAME? Anoushka.  A Russian recently pointed out that it’s not a real name, it’s just a nickname (it kind of means “little Ann”).  Well, it’s my real name.  Tut.

2. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? A friend of my mum’s from school, I think.

3. WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY? I can’t remember, maybe a few months ago because of sucky work rubbish.

4. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? I like the handwriting I produce when I’m not scrawling hastily.  When I’m in a hurry my writing is absolutely atrocious.

5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE LUNCHMEAT?  I’m not a fan of meaty sandwiches, because the meat isn’t usually good quality.  I’m more of a cheese and pickle girl. 

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?  Possibly.  I’m a grower, so I’d hope I’d recognise a kernal of potential and give me a chance.

7. DO YOU HAVE A JOURNAL? No. I used to write a diary, but I’ve not kept one since I was about sixteen.  I’d love to read my old diaries now, but I’ve lost them.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS? No.  I had them removed at the same time as having my adenoids out, my sinuses scraped and grommets (see ‘Surgical grommets’) put in my ears.  I did not look pretty after that operation!

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP?  I like the idea, but my self-preservation instinct is strong.  I’d have to ask someone to push me off the ledge, and then I’d probably love it.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CEREAL? Crunchy, oaty cluster cereals.

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG? Physically, I’m quite strong (I have unnaturally large biceps for a girl).  My mental strength is good, too.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR? Easy - pistachio.

14. SHOE SIZE? UK 5.5

15. RED OR PINK? Pink, but it has to be bright, not wussy.

16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVOURITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF? Parikha, I’m right there with you – I can be painfully anti-social.

17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?  No one.  I’m in touch with everyone I care about. 

18. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO SEND THIS BACK TO YOU? No, but leave a comment if you answer the questions, so I can read them.

19. WHAT COLOUR PANTS, SHIRT AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING? A boring black and grey skirt suit and white top.  But I have bright blue merino wool tights under my black boots which makes me feel a little snazzier.

20. LAST THING YOU ATE? Bacon and eggs.  I NEVER have a cooked breakfast during the week, but I had severe back-to-work-blues this morning, and the bacon wouldn’t keep (excuses, excuses) so I treated myself.  If I end up a heifer I only have myself to blame!

21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?  Office white noise. 

22. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOUR WOULD YOU BE?  Green. 

23. FAVORITE SMELL?  My favourite man-made smell is CK One.  My favourite natural smell is DB cooking me dinner (I guess that’s kind of man-made too).   

24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE? Snap again, Parikha - a lawyer.

25. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE YOU ARE ATTRACTED TO? Their eyes.

26. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON YOU STOLE THIS FROM? She was giving it away, no theft necessary.  But, yes, is the answer.

27. FAVOURITE DRINK? Good coffee, and when the sun’s over the yard arm, or whatever the expression is, a caipirinha.   

28. FAVOURITE SPORT? It used to be hockey.  Now it’s nothing.  I can put myself in a trance on a tread mill, though.

29. EYE COLOUR? Blue.

30. HAT SIZE? If I had no hair, I would be a medium.  But I have enormous hair, so large.

31. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? Yes.

32. FAVOURITE FOOD? Roast pork belly.

33. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? Happy endings.

35. SUMMER OR WINTER? Winter.  It’s good for knitters.

36. HUGS OR KISSES? Both.

37. FAVOURITE DESSERT? Creme caramel.

38. WHO IS MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND? Someone who likes to share.

39. WHO IS LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND?  My mother.  We’re still working on cutting and pasting.

40. WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU READING?  I’m currently reading DIY – Design It Yourself edited by Ellen Lupton.  I’ve just finished reading Anna’s Crafter’s Companion.  Lined up, I have Alison Croggan’s The Crow (I love children’s fantasy books).

41. WHAT’S ON YOUR MOUSE PAD?  Comprehensive instructions on how to access my voicemail.

42. WHAT DID YOU WATCH LAST NIGHT ON TV? Nothing.  I knitted, read a presentation my DB had written and had a bath.

43. FAVOURITE SOUNDS? Music which moves me.  I rediscovered Pavement’s Terror Twilight this weekend.  There are some perfect tracks on that album.   

44. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES? Beatles.  When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide and I stop and I turn and I go for a ride and I get to the bottom and I see you again yeah yeah yeah.  Classic.

45. THE FURTHEST YOU’VE BEEN FROM HOME? New Zealand.

46. WHAT’S YOUR SPECIAL TALENT?  Avoidance of domestic chores. 

47. WHERE WERE YOU BORN? Surrey, UK.

48. WHO SENT THIS TO YOU? Look, I’m telling you – she offered it, so I took it.

I do have some knitting to show, but it’s red, and the photographs I took in articial light look like a bloody scene from The Shining or something.  I’ll have a go in the daylight.  You’ll only get to see a sneaky peek any way, as its a secret Christmas present.  I’ve also started on Knit & Tonic’s ‘Last Minute “Purled” Beret’ and should have made enough progress to share, tomorrow.  I’m making this with the itchiest yarn in my stash.  Why?  Because I can.  I might even make an itchy scarf to go with it.

Thanks for all your suggestions about what to do with the linen yarn.  I think I’m going to swatch some of it up, and see if that leads me in a particular direction.  I’ll keep you posted.
