London living

I was mugged on Thursday night on the way home. A truly horrible experience, particularly as it happened at my front door. The mugger pushed me into the lobby of my building as I opened the door and mugged me there, before pushing me down the stairs and making off with, thankfully, only my wallet.

Ordinarily, I’d question this as a forum for sharing this kind of thing, but my posting is cautionary. I’m pretty alert as I make my way home from the tube station, but when I near home, I switch off a little. I think about getting my keys out and wonder whether my DB is home and so on. I had no idea the mugger was behind me. So, moral of the story is, until you’re safely behind your front door – stay alert.

I’m fine now. A little shaken and I know the first trip home from work isn’t going to be a relaxing experience. But with the street crime rates in London, the odds on avoiding this kind of experience all together are not high.

Anyway, enough of horrible things.

I have used my day off work productively. I finished my hat! I finally got the hang of switching between my circulars and the dpns. However, I didn’t like knitting with the yarn at all. It was RYC Soft Lux. I don’t know whether you can see from the picture, but the yarn has a metallic thread shot through. I can’t really explain why I don’t like it, but I don’t. That hat has turned out ok. I’d make the body of it a little longer next time, and I think I don’t think I would use 3X2 ribbing again, but it was a good learning experience.

I had to post a picture of the beautiful flowers that my mum sent me to help make me feel better.

Flowers from mum

They did the job! Work also sent me some lovely flowers, which I haven’t had time to take a picture of. I was grateful for everyone’s thoughts.

  • I’m sorry to hear about that – hope you’re okay. I’ll never understand how the people that do that kind of thing can sleep at night. The flowers are beautiful! Laura x

  • I’m so sorry to hear about what happened to you. I am glad that the swine didn’t injure you.

I had my car stolen about a year ago – in fact I saw the thief drive off with it. The only comfort I could derive from it was that at least you can replace posessions – unlike people.

  • Noo, you poor thing! I’m so sorry, that is a horrible thing to happen to you. Glad you’re ok and the flowers are really beautiful.

  • How awful! I’m so sorry that happened to you. Glad to hear you’re OK. Hope the mugger gets his due karma very soon.

  • Dear Noo,
I am so sorry!! It must have been horrible!! Please hang in there and know that I am thinking of you! A big hig. Claudia.

  • What an awful, frightening experience! Glad to hear you’re ok. That must have shaken you up pretty badly. Horrible, horrible.

    Take care.

  • Really sorry it had to happen to you. I hope the scum that mugged you didn’t get away with too much in your wallet. Cards can be replaced after all. If he’d found mine, he’d be lucky to find coins, let alone notes! You take care and I hope you can get over it quickly.

  • Absolutely horrid to think of you being attacked in this way (and yes, I do think of mugging as an attack). I hope it hasn’t shaken you too much and am sending you blog hugs. Helen x

  • i’ve never been mugged, but two houses down from me is a crack den/brothel (i’m not kidding), so i always get my keys out ready to scratch any potential attackers eyes out. sorry to hear it happened to you.

oh and i have some ryc soft lux – i don’t like it either! i have frogged that bloomin’ yarn more times than i care to remember. currently it is part of a lengthways-knit scarf. so that will get rid of one ball – only two more to go! i am glad i bought it in a sale, i am kind of glad i didn’t pay full price. (i have light purple x2 and one dark purple). i think part of the reason i don’t like it is because the yarn is a little bit too fuzzy for the metallicness.
