Pigs have flown
I actually have an FO to show you! My few rows a day on the bus have finally added up to a whole scarf. I’m really pleased with the end result, and that I have a few other skeins of Koigu to try out some variations.
Look.
I enjoyed knitting it, mainly because I was so amazed that what is essentially glorified garter stitch can look so pretty. Here’s the requisite close-up (taken during my first blocking endeavour *)…
* I was slightly disappointed to find that even the lofty Koigu smells like wet dog after a dunk in the sink!
I wanted to find a small lace project to practice my lace skills on and my Barbara Walker book came up trumps. I’m going to knit the pattern shown on the right…
with this…
Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Moonlight
Another first – knitting cobwebs with teflon sticks with Kidsilk Haze! I was knitting very gingerly at first, but now I have switched to bamboo needles, it’s a lot better, and I like it. It’s like knitting with angel hair, which is a festive thought. I won’t show you a picture because it just looks like fuzz at the moment.
And in swapping news:
F from over at Knitwise agreed to swap Hip to Crochet for some bamboo knitting needles and chocolate. I was happy to welcome another crochet book into my library. (I must take pictures of my books some day. I don’t use the word “library” lightly). Thanks for swapping, F!
And finally…
…a tip. I purchased this lovely book for a mere five English pounds from M&S.
I think it’s a real bargain, if you’re into baking and/or good cookery writers.
Apologies for not posting as much as usual at the moment. Work is really sucking up my life and blog-composing windows are rare. Things should improve in the New Year.

beautiful scarf – is that just one skein? and, is it the same yarn that features in your banner image?

Your scarf has turned out lovely and I am looking forward to seeing the KSH’s progress.
As for the Mrs Beeton’s book, it does sound indeed like a bargain for a “classic”… Enjoy cooking all those lovely cakes!!!

The Koigu is really emphasized by the stitch pattern, it was a great choice to go with.

I love that scarf that you made with the Koigu! I have something similar to Koigu and perhaps that would be perfect. Where did you get the pattern from?

Lovely scarf!
I grew up with Mrs. Beeton’s; my mom brought over her copy of a comprehensive cookbook–sort of like “The Joy of Cooking”, except it was Mrs. Beeton’s version–when she moved to the US from England, and we’ve used it to bits. It’s now yellowing and weathered, but we still refer back to it for things like pastry and quiche.
