Bad Noo

I know I haven’t posted for ages. I’m very sorry. My excuse is that I have been suffering knitting mini-disasters. I can’t get into my stride with Kiri, so I put it to one side to work on socks using the Crusoe pattern and my beautiful Hip Knits cashmere sock yarn. Had I troubled to read the blogs and message boards, I would have discovered that a common problem with Crusoe is that it churns out a very small sock. Anyway, I’ve got to the heel on two occasions and decided the sock was, yes, too small. (Note to self: must do better due diligence, or a gauge swatch, in future).

I was using the magic loop method facilitated by my lovely Addi Turbos (which are great , by the way). Unfortunately, I didn’t get on very well with the gusset portion of Two Cats and A Girl’s basic sock pattern (PDF). I think I put my markers in the wrong place.

I do have a little picture of how the cashmere sock yarn knitted up using the Crusoe stitch pattern (very nicely), and I’ll post that soon.

I’m off to The Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally this coming Sunday. My DB is coming with me, bless him. It’s going to be a challenge, as I really don’t need any more yarn, so I must resist, unless there is something really special.

Oh, and I had to share this with you! Anna has posted a “silly meme” (her own words), which made me chuckle. This is how it works for me:

Noo needs…

…to develop a stronger in-house capability to manage social sciences.

…to take it easy on the coffee

…some rest.

Spooky.

  • Have a wonderful time at Ally Pally – I’m sure you won’t be able to resist tempation!!!

  • Noo, you’re in for a treat at Ally Pally – make sure your credit card is fully charged and ready for action. I’ll be on stand M33 if you’d like to say hello – it would be nice to meet “in person”.

  • Resistance is futile, my dear! Hope you had fun. I did!

  • Hi Noo
I’ve been bad to in that I haven’t replied to your last email yet! Will be in touch soon. I recently had the same encounter with Crusoe – ironically with the koigu yarn that you sent me!!! I had to rip and although I still intend to use the Koigu for Crusoe I’m going to do some other socks first with some other yarn so I know better how to adapt the Crusoe pattern.
