Knitting a Love Song
I am a very lucky Spitting Yarn. My DB is the most loving and supportive DB I could hope to have. I’ve not been the easiest person to live with lately. I’ve been grumpy (or crispy as he puts it) for about 3 months. I’m disenchanted with my job, our house is in a constant state of chaos, I try to knit my problems away rather than tidy the house or think constructive thoughts about what to do with my life. And despite all this, he never fails to let me know that I am loved and supported, notwithstanding my crispiness.
After a particularly tough week, I returned from Boston to a gift, and what a great gift it was. A DVD of a short film called Knitting a Love Song.

DB has recently signed up with a literary agent and he got the film through his agent. We sat down and watched it on Saturday and I was utterly charmed by it. If I was a film writer, it is what I would have written.
The film was written and directed by Annie Watson. It’s a Yorkshire tale of Pearl’s infatuation with a boy and her decision to knit her love for him into a scarf. It’s bittersweet, tender and has sticks and yarn. I don’t know how widely available the film is, but if you ever get the opportunity to see it, grab it with both hands. I loved it.
Interwebbing tells me that Annie Watson is now working on her first feature length film charting three generations of women against a backdrop of cake baking and teenage love. I can’t wait for it.
