Revise-a-row

I have my first exam for 4 years on Saturday. If all goes according to plan I will acquire my third entirely pointless and superfluous postgraduate diploma.

I’ve been off work since Friday on “study leave”. Getting into my revision groove has been tough going. I’m not worried about the exam at all – not because I think I’ll pass with flying colours, but because it seem inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully, I’ll work up a head of steam as the week goes on, and do what I need to do.

Knitting has been my revision reward. Every time I finish an exam plan or finish cramming a particular area, I award myself a row or two.

I started a new project especially. It’s Anna’s Giotto pattern. I am in love with the picot edge and, in fact, with the sock in general. When I kicked off this project, I veered between thinking “Anna’s a genuis” and “What the…?”. I discovered it’s a ‘faith’ pattern: persevere for a repeat or two and the pattern will emerge, and a pretty one at that. But for a moment it looked a bit of a mess.

Unfortunately, my Hamburger Wollfabrik yarn was not the best choice. It doesn’t have much twist to it, so it splits easily and hangs loose. The stitch definition isn’t great and it makes the Giotto’s cables hard work. I love the colour, though (it’s between the colour of the two pics in this post). I imagine Anna’s choice of Koigu knits up much more nicely.

This is my second attempt at a Magic Loop sock, but my first using a pattern actually designed for the method. Anna gives clear instructions on what to do at the gussett, which has historically been my problem area, so fingers crossed we may actually see a complete sock!

I am cheered in my revision blues by the imminent arrival of this! Expect sharp pictures on this blog in the future (or maybe don’t!).
